Nominated for Canadian Country Music Association Award!

I’m proud to anounce that my artwork for Shane Chisholm’s amazing “Hitchhiking Buddha” album has been nominated for a 2010 CCMA Award for “Album Design of the Year “. I would like to thank all those who nominated and voted for the album and to Shane for really getting it out there.

This was a very fun project to work on and was very much a learning experience. I had wanted to learn how to digitally colour my hand drawn illustrations (the correct way) for some time now and this was the perfect project to train on. I think the end results were very good and I now feel confident about my digital colouring skills which I will definitely be putting to use in the future.

Shane’s great storytelling in his lyrics were the key to choosing the right images for each leaf. The cover was simple enough. The album’s title track is “Hitchhiking Buddha” which is a (true!) tale of Shane passing by a buddhist on the highways of Alberta. Shane made sure we included his big upright bass in the back of the truck.

We decided to do a comic book scene for the “Taking Out The Trash” Leaf. I love doing comic book art so this one was especially fun for me. It was a bit hard to work in all of the small details into such a small space, but I think it worked out pretty well.

Speaking of cramming a lot of information into a small space… The credits leaf took some creative text placing to make sure everything was readable. Lots of fun drawing each of the characters on this leaf.

The “Tundra & Tacoma” leaf was the first of the series that was done as Shane was releasing the single to the airwaves and wanted some artwork to accompany it. I think it really set the tone and style for the rest of the artwork.

The back cover with the track listings turned out pretty good. I had an image in my head of what I wanted for this leaf and I think I came pretty close to realising it. I had a great time creating the artwork for this album with Shane and I’m really glad others are enjoying both of our labours of love.

UPDATE!

Well, we didn’t end up winning the Design award but Shane did walk away with two other well earned awards during the fun filled weekend in Edmonton! Huge Congrats go out to him!
